Trophy and Championship Details

Unless otherwise stated, all trophies are perpetual. A special award will be made to any rider recording three consecutive wins.

All trophies are for male and female riders unless otherwise stated.

A Junior rider is one who is under 18 years on the day of the counting event.

Trophies are listed in alphabetical order.

Blain Cup.

Awarded annually at the discretion of the committee for outstanding performance or achievement, not necessarily in a racing capacity.

Club 30 Cup.

Presented by Mrs G. Botley and awarded for the fastest 30 of the year.

Club 50 Cup.

Purchased from Club funds and awarded for the fastest 50 of the year.

Club 100 Cup.

Purchased from Club funds and awarded for the fastest 100 of the year.

Clubman Trophy.

Awarded annually to the rider with the highest number of points gained in Club events, points to be awarded for the first eight places, both scratch and handicap, in time trials, and for the first eight places in the Hill Climb Championship.

Cyclo-Cross Championship.

Refer to details under the Mike May Trophy.

Evening 10 Cup.

Presented by J. Grant and awarded to the male rider under 16 year of age with the fastest aggregate of five Club Evening 10 mile events during the season.

F. W. Evans Memorial Cup.

Purchased by the Club members in 1946 as a perpetual memorial to Mr F. W. Evans, president of the Club from it’s inception until his death in 1944. Awarded annually to the member riding a single bicycle or tricycle who does the greatest distance in an approved 12 hour event.

F. W. Evans (L.C.M.A.) Memorial Cup.

Awarded to the winner of the S.E.R.C. Open 25.

Hill Climb Championship Cup.

Presented by Mr and Mrs R. A. Oborne as a perpetual trophy and awarded to the winner of the Club Hill Climb Championship.

J. F. E. Wilde Memorial Trophy.

Presented by H. W. Pink in memory of Jimmy Wilde, a long serving committee member, district timekeeper and who was involved in the organisation of activities for younger members of the Club. The trophy is awarded to a schoolboy who is attending full time day school and is under 16 years of age on the day of the event who achieves the best performances over three Open, Association or Club 10s and / or two highest placings in circuit road races and / or two best performances in track events, to be approved beforehand by the committee. Also a prize of £5.00 presented annually.

Junior 10 Cup.

Presented by Mr Stratford and awarded for the fastest 10 of the year by a junior member.

Junior Championship Cup.

This cup is to won outright each year by the Junior Club Champion - the rider under 18 years old with the fastest average speed over 10 and 25 miles.

Ladies’ 10 Cup.

Presented by A. V. and A. R. G. Stone in 1957 and awarded for the fastest 10 of the year by a lady member.

Ladies’ 25 Cup.

Presented by A. V. and A. R. G. Stone in 1957 and awarded for the fastest 25 of the year by a lady member.

Ladies’ Evening 10 Cup.

Presented by J. Grant and awarded to the lady rider with the fastest aggregate of three Club Evening 10 mile events during the season.

Ladies’ Plaque.

Presented by H. E. T. Brooker and awarded to the most improved Lady rider of the year.

Lou Smith Memorial Salver.

First presented in 1984 and awarded annually in memory of Lou Smith, former President, long serving Club Officer and Coach. This trophy, purchased annually from the proceeds of the Lou Smith Memorial fund, is won outright by the winner on age standard in the Open "Lou Smith Memorial" Veterans Time Trial.

Mens’ 10 Cup.

Presented by Mr and Mrs R. G. Donington and awarded for the fastest 10 of the year by a male member.

Mens’ 25 Cup.

Purchased from Club funds and awarded for the fastest 25 of the year by a male member.

Mike May Trophy.

Presented by Mrs E Russell in 1985 in memory of her late husband Mike May, who’s Sons, both former members of the SERC, were keen Cyclo-Cross riders. The trophy is awarded to the winner of the Cyclo-Cross Championship.

Novices’ Medal.

A silver medal is awarded annually to the rider recording the fastest 10 mile time trial of the year in any Club, Open or Association event who in previous years had not ridden in events at this or greater distance.

Novices’ Plaque.

Presented by H. E. T. Brooker and awarded to the male rider with the fastest aggregate of three 25’s in Club, Open or Association events who is in his first season of time trialling.

Old Members’ Trophy.

Presented by the Club’s "Old Members", to be awarded to the winner on age standard in the Clubs Open Veterans’ Time Trial.

Palmer Trophy.

Awarded to the winner of the Short Distance Championship - the member recording the fastest average speed over 10, 25 and 50 miles.

Schoolboys’ Cyclo-Cross Trophy.

Presented by Mr and Mrs C. B. Mott and awarded to the winner of the Schoolboys’ Cyclo-Cross Championship.

Section 50 Cup.

Presented in 1938 by the S.E. Section and awarded to the fastest Club rider in the Inter-Club 50 with the Eagle Road Club.

Slade Cup.

Formerly the Dunlop Cup, re-presented to the Club as a perpetual memorial to Mr F. Slade, a founder member of the Club, by his wife Mrs O. Slade in 1984 and awarded to the fastest rider, of either club, in the Inter-Club 50.

Short Distance Championship.

Refer to Racing Rule 7(f), section 3.2.

Short Distance Veterans’ Competition.

Awarded to the Veteran with the highest total "+", based on V.T.T.A. Age Standard Schedule Tables, calculated over their two best 10 and two best 25 mile events. The winner receives a silver gilt medal mounted on a plaque, for 2nd place a silver medal and for 3rd place a bronze medal.

Special Gold Medal.

Presented to the Club by Mrs D. Roberts and will be awarded to the first Lady rider inside the hour for 25 miles.

Stone Time Trial Championship Cup.

Presented by Mr and Mrs A. A. Stone in 1952 to replace the Dunlop Challenge Cup won outright in 1951. This was again won outright by H. W. Pink in 1956 and re-presented to the Club as a perpetual trophy. Awarded to the "Club Time Trial Champion" .

Sundowner Cup.

Presented in 1970 by Arthur Smith of Sydney, Australia. Awarded to the "Club Road Race Champion".

2up Team Time Trial Shield.

Awarded to the winners of the Senior Open 2 up Team Time Trial.

"Tom" Cannon Perpetual Memorial Shield.

Purchased by the Club members in 1930 as a perpetual memorial to Charles "Tom" Cannon, a founder member and the first Secretary of the Club, who died in 1929 aged 31. This shield is awarded for highest placings in Open events during the year by male or female members riding a solo machine. Qualifying performances on two or more occasions in one of any of the following:-

Time Trials  - Placed in the top 6

Team Time Trials  - Placed in the top 3

Road / Circuit Races -  Elite, 1st Cat. rider placed in the top 5, 2nd, 3rd, 4th Cat. riders placed in the top 4

Track (hard surface)  - Two top 3 places in 5 miles event or over, two open scratch sprints, two individual pursuits

These performances to be scrutinised by a panel of three, but in the case of a rider gaining a high placing in a National Championship, this will be the deciding factor in the case of a tie.

Thistle 10 Cup.

Presented by D. P. Patterson and awarded to the fastest rider in a special event to be known as the Thistle 10.

Tricycle 25 Trophy.

Presented by G. Williams and awarded for the fastest tricycle 25 of the year.

Veterans’ B.A.R. Championship Trophy.

Awarded to the member aged 40 years or over, in accordance with Racing Rule 7(e), section 3.2.

Veterans’ Trophy.

Presented by Mr and Mrs L. J. Smith and awarded to the rider with the highest total points in the Veterans’ Competition, in accordance with the following rules :-

1. The competition is open to all members aged 40 years or over on the day of the event.

2. The counting rides take place in Club events only, excluding the Hill Climb.

3. The fastest Veteran on Handicap takes 10 points and pro-rata to the 10 fastest veteran who takes 1 point. Even if only two veterans compete, they still take 10 and 9 points. If more than 10 veterans compete, the points still only go to the ten fastest Veterans.

4. At the conclusion of the season, the Veteran with the highest points total from their best 4 counting events be declared the winner.

5. In any counting event, if a tie for a handicap position occurs, the total number of points will be shared by those riders, i.e. 2 Veterans both obtaining 1st Handicap will receive 9½ points each.

6. In the event of a tie for first place at the conclusion of the competition, the oldest Veteran will be declared the winner.

Veterans’ Age Standard Medals.

Age Standard Medals will be awarded, based on the V.T.T.A. Age Standard Schedule Tables at 10, 25, 30, 50 and 100 miles, and at 12 and 24 hour events. After winning an age standard award, to obtain another award in a later age group, the rider must beat their previous best time plus allowances for each additional year of age.

On payment of a fee of £3.00 in respect of each distance, a rider may make any number of attempts at this distance during the season, but only their fastest time or greatest distance shall be recorded. A payment of £8.00 shall cover all attempts at all distances on one type of machine.

Claims for age standard medals must be submitted at the end of the season. A rider must have a minimum of three medals to qualify for a plaque in lieu.
